But...what are dark types then?

Even spookier? Gotta admit, I've never quite got what Dark types are supposed to be. Some of them are nasty or mean, but some of them are actually pretty noble.

...These types are dumb. [A non-child might have said they were bullshit even. But here was Mikasa and she was...somewhat polite.] I have to study it for the gym.

Yeah, some of them don't make a whole lot of sense.

But you're learning to start your own gym challenge? I can help out with that. I hope to challenge the Elite Four pretty soon myself.

Yeah, Yachi is doing it. So I'm going to try too. [She'd been adopted. But she waited a moment, looking to the ground. Turning as serious as a 10-year-old could.] ...I don't know what I want to do. But I'm here.

[Honestly, he's not terribly surprised. He got a glimpse of what Mikasa was like with Eren out of the picture back home. It sucked the life out of her.]

[He'd like to do something about it. A kid should have a little more... Enthusiasm, right?]

Yeah. It's hard. I didn't really know what to do when I first got here either.

No. I... [Shrug? She'd never really thought about what she'd be when she grew up. She'd always thought she'd just live on the farm with mother and father but... ] don't know..?

... How did you work it out?

Well... Honestly, for awhile I kinda ran away from it all. I felt like I couldn't deal with any of it. Like I couldn't ever really fit in in a place like this.

After I did that for a bit, I started to realize that places are just places, and decisions are just decisions. I couldn't wait around for some magic direction on how to live my life. I just had to start moving forward again.

[wrappedwarm]

[She frowns at that. She didn't think she was running from anything.]

[Awkward shuffling... That probably didn't convey over the recording. But she really wasn't sure.]

Yeah, I know. Yachi, right? [Jean heard of these things secondhand from Armin.] Are you having fun with them?

Yes, she's very nice. I've never had a girl friend before... Only Eren and Armin...

[Even if Yachi was a bit older, she still felt the same age. Probably because she cried a lot.]

[While he'd technically had this information for awhile...]

Most of the local kids bullied Armin... And Eren got into fights.

[She was linked by association. Because she was the new kid in the area and she knew Eren and Armin. And the whole beating up the bullies thing...]

Yeah, those two stick out like crazy. [And that's all it takes to attract bullies. Jean knows. He's been one.] Did you give those bullies what-for?

Yeah. They run away when they see me... They don't run away from Eren though...

[Unsure what to think of this.]

That's because you're stronger than he is. It's still like that later.

[Because she could beat him up if he started something. Yep. That was how it worked.]

What about you? You're tall. [That meant the bullies got scared and ran away too, right?]

I guess you manage to scare off some of them.

Me? Honestly, I was the one getting bullied for a bit. [Because he was a chubby little mama's boy.] Then I kinda turned into one myself. I think I've mostly grown out of it tho'.

Well, I'm glad you think so. But sometimes people are just jerks. It's pretty hard to be a good person.

[But didn't mister Jean say that him and Eren didn't get along? And if Mister Jean was nice then..... Mikasa frowned more than normal, lips pressing into a thin line.]
